An Easter Ski Adventure

Me on top of the snowy mountain

4/2/2018 Sierra at Tahoe Ski Resort

Imagine it being a bright sunny day up in the mountains. People sitting at the lodge outside in short-sleeved shirts, but there is snow on the slopes. Bumps, hills, and plains full of fresh snow. As skiers and snowboarders streaked down the hillsides, I joined them. Although the front side of the mountain was all hustle and bustle, we found a great pathway down the back.

This is the day after Easter 2018. It’s crazy how I was just sailing on Saturday, and now I am skiing. After visiting my grandmother, my father and I went up to the mountains. Since it was a weekday, few people were there, and those that were were mostly on different trails than us. The morning had the best skiing as the snow was not icy, but it wasn’t slushy either. Through the afternoon, the sun had melted the powder into a slush that slowed us down quite a bit during the flats. We took a break to eat lunch.

After lunch, we returned to the slopes and did a few last rounds. My father got tired and went to the lodge. I was left to do the bunny hill. Luckily, on the bunny hill, there were obstacles you could do if you wanted to. You could do a traversing track that banked on the turns, or you could go on the jumps. I did the traversing track for a while, it was fun to shred the snow on the sharp turns. The jumps were huge and had rails you could go on too. I stayed with the jumps, maxing my height at about 2 feet off the ground.

The end of the day was so tiring, I could barely walk back to the car with my gear. Taking off my boots and other gear felt very freeing. On the way home, I was exhausted, having to bend over and squat all day.
