Home, sweet, home

The first few days back at home were quite exciting. I met with my old friends in a hall lined with lockers. This would be the first year we would use them. In the meantime, there were whispers in the hallway as I walked down. As we rotated through the classes, I learned about our schedules. I looked forward to every school day, and felt quite excited about learning anything, from autotrophs to zephyrs. After a few weeks, this all stopped. Soon, everything settled down, and nothing seemed new. The next turn of events ended up being the next chapter of my life.

The decision had been floating around the family for a long time. Finally, the perfect opportunity came. We had been deciding whether or not to move to the house we had been renting to other people. We moved in when our client decided to move out. the house was a mess, with grimy floor, and uneven ground. The ground’s uneven, because the house is sinking in mud! There was a lot of work to be done. After we moved, I turned my attention to my after school activities, piano, swimming, and sailing.

A few weeks after arriving, I got an acoustic piano! The one I had been using before was electric, we had decided that it was time for an upgrade. It took us a few days to find the perfect one. When it arrived, I played it for what felt like an hour. It sounds great. I now play it every day.

I progressed very quickly in my swimming ranks. After about a week back, I was moved up a level. And a few days ago, something remarkable happened. We had just finished our practice and I was rinsing off. Coach Mark told me to come over to him. The the other kids thought I was in trouble, and so did I. Covered in suds, I nervously walked to him. He said that I was going to Gold Tryouts in April. I returned to the shower barely able to hold back a grin, gold was the highest level someone my age could go. Gold was 2 levels ahead of me. If I did good in the tryouts, I could skip a level. As soon as Coach Mark left, kids asked me what happened. When I told them I was going to Gold Tryouts, they were astonished.

My sailing is a very different story. I used to be one of the best, but now I am in the lower 3rd of  my team. Now I try really hard and hope to do better. Our team is one of the best in our area, so I still get somewhere around 7th place in green fleet during regattas.
